There used to be a great country restaurant in Meadows of Dan just a couple of blocks down 58 from Jane's which I loved going to, especially for its fried chicken. It closed a decade or so ago, and I hadn't been to Meadows of Dan for a long time, so when I found out about Jane's I was excited and hopeful, and (although there was no fried chicken, alas) it definitely proved worth the trip when I was finally able to get there this past weekend. I had fried shrimp, mashed potatoes, green beans, and French fries, all of which tasted great and came out in a reasonable time. A mistake in the order (from the kitchen, which the waitress noticed as soon as she put the food down on the table) was corrected quickly and with the offer of a little extra food as an apology for the hassle. The waitress herself was friendly and an excellent server. The only reason we didn't get dessert was because we were pressed for time by deadlines at a couple of places we wanted to visit. I don't know how long it will be before I make it back to Meadows of Dan, but I'll love having dinner at Jane's again whenever I do. (Especially if they ever start selling fried chicken too. :) )

We popped into Jane's Country Cafe for lunch on a recent road trip through Virginia. These are places I love to find - locally owned, country cooking with generous servings! You can sit inside or outdoors at a picnic table. We chose indoors for the air conditioning. We were surrounded by locals and bicyclists who stopped for a mid-ride respite. Our waitress, Lisa, was enthusiastic as we praised her for the variety of menu options - it was hard to choose what to order! Five stars except my hush puppies were cold. Good flavor, but chilled. I didn't complain as I had more than enough food with the fried shrimp platter. We were so full we had to skip the homemade desserts. I noticed handmade dish towels and jams (apple butter and strawberry jam) at the checkout. We bought some strawberry jams to take home with us. We're excited to give them to friends as a "sweet" memory of our road trip. Thank you, Jane's Country Kitchen!

Nice - feels like home away from home feeling. Food was good - had the pull pork BBQ. It was light on BBQ sauce but the value and portions were great. The service - waitress was nice and great with her recommendations (what to eat). I will return when driving around the area.

Great place for a quick country meal. While in VA, we stopped here for a late lunch. Masks are required when not eating and the tables are socially distant. There were only a few other customers when we arrived so we chose an empty table in the back. The restaurant is quiet and light. Shades are on the windows to block excessive light. When we got settled at our selected table, the friendly waitress greeted us, gave us laminated menus, and took our drink orders. The menu is simple and affordable. I decided on a chicken salad sandwich with tater tots. Chicken salad was as expected and the tater tots were crispy. Both were portioned perfectly. The meal left us satisfied. We would recommend this establishment to others!
